Being a parent is an awesome feeling, but it can be hard to choose the right thing for your little one, especially in their health and hygiene. When it comes to hygiene, diapers play an important role as your baby is exposed to them from day one and thus it becomes necessary to make a careful choice. We decided to dive into this topic a little more to help you understand this clothing item and the benefits of the  different varieties they come in.

Pre-fold Diapers

Pre-fold diapers are an age-old concept which we follow. It is economical, flexible, easy to wash, and good for newborns. It is flat and rectangular in shape. All you have to do is cover this pre-fold with a waterproof diaper cover on top, wrap it around your baby’s waist, secure it with snappis, which will be an alternative for a diaper pin.

Fitted Cloth Diapers

Fitted cloth diapers are the same as disposable diapers in shape and fittings. It will fit on your baby’s hip comfortably as it has elastic around the leg and hip. The whole diaper is an absorbent part, so the whole thing requires washing after every use. It is necessary to use a waterproof cover or wool shell to avoid leakage as it is NOT waterproof. You will have to buy a new one according to your baby’s growth and weight because mostly, fitted diapers are in standard size.

Pocket Diapers

Pocket diapers are a wonderful option for your baby because it grows with your little one and is easy to fasten. It is available in free size (5kg to 17kg) and can be adjusted according to your baby’s size. It consists of three different layers, the waterproof outer cover, Stay-dry inner liner. Together it forms a pocket in which you can add the inserts of your choice as the third layer. You can add the hemp or bamboo charcoal inserts with regular inserts for overnight use. Wash the entire diaper with each change.

All in one Diaper

All in one Diaper is also called Ready to wear diapers. It is more similar to a disposable diaper. It does not require any inserts to add because the absorbent inserts are already sewn-in. It is suitable for babies who pee frequently. It requires one day to dry.

The materials used to make these diapers are also very crucial in understanding their benefit.

Cloth diapers are made up of 100% cotton. The inserts are made up of natural fibers such as hemp, bamboo charcoal, cotton, wool, and microfiber. The colors used in the dying process are without any harmful chemicals. All these are done in consideration with the comfortness and health of the little ones who will be using it. There is a reason why our grandmothers insist on using cloth nappies!

Skin-friendly for the Babies

Cloth diapers are made from natural materials. It does not contain any harmful chemicals such as dyes, chlorine, and perfumes (they are used for high absorption in disposable diapers). Therefore, no rashes and no skin irritation.

Budget Friendly

They may seem expensive in the early stages. But they are more of a one time investment. If you buy them, you will keep them for a lifetime. It is cheaper than regular disposable diapers. You have to spend around, Rs1800 to 2400 per month depending on the brand you choose. So, it comes to INR 50,000 to 72,000 for 2.5years. Whereas if you prefer cloth diapers, it is only a one-time investment of Rs 5000 to 7000 approximately.

Eco-friendly

Cloth diapers are reusable. You can also donate diapers to the needy. Disposable diapers create landfill waste as 5 to 7 diapers will get disposed of per day on average. Also, it degrades slowly.

Lead to early potty training for your little one.

Your baby can easily feel the wet sensation while using cloth diapers and this helps and make them know when they need to use the potty. So, your job will be easy now.

Cloth diapers are available in different styles and patterns and so need to be taken care for to ensure longer usage. Some ways to do this are –

  • You can wash cloth diapers along with other clothes after pre-washed them.
